Autumn Inspired Makeup Look (Cruelty-Free) + 3 "Halloween" Books to Read this Season

A chegada do outono inspira-me sempre. As folhas começam a cair e as cores da estação mudam por completo. É a bit of a cliché, mas adoro o outono e todo o conceito de — chá, livro e manta. E Halloween! Fiz um makeup look super básico inspirado nos tons de outono (totalmente cruelty-free), e trago-vos 3 sugestões de livros para ler nesta season (ou quando quiserem!). // The arrival of autumn always inspires me. The leaves start to fall and the colors of the season change completely. It's a bit of a cliché, but I love it the whole concept of - tea, book and blanket. And Halloween! I did a super basic makeup look inspired by autumn shades (totally cruelty-free), and I bring you 3 book suggestions to read this season (or whenever you want!).

Nunca celebrei propriamente o Halloween (festas temáticas, etc), mas gosto imenso de “celebrar à minha maneira” - ver filmes/séries de horror/terror ou apenas halloween-related. E provavelmente rever o Beetlejuice pela milésima vez. E claro, as leituras “spooky” não podem faltar.

Mas falemos no meu look não relacionado com Halloween, mas sim nas cores do outono. Usei uns tons acastanhados/alaranjados de ambas as paletas Conspirancy e Androgyny (Jeffree Star Cosmetics) e criei este look em tons quentes, com um pop de dark green. É muito simples I know, mas este género de maquilhagem é muito a minha vibe — descomplicado.

I never exactly celebrated Halloween (theme parties, etc.), but I really enjoy "celebrating in my own way" - watching horror movies / series or just halloween related. And probably rewatching Beetlejuice for the thousandth time. And of course, spooky readings. But let's talk about my not related to Halloween makeup look. I used brown / orange shades from both the Conspirancy and Androgyny palettes (Jeffree Star Cosmetics) and created this look in warm tones, with a pop of dark green on the lower lash line. It's very simple I know, but this kind of makeup is very much my vibe - uncomplicated.

Products used: serum foundation - The Ordinary, liquid camouflage concealer - Catrice, centella mineral powder - COSRX, graphic brow fix (& graphic brows in the shade arsenic), vivid baker blusher (hard day) & bronze reloaded (holiday romance) - Revolution, super shock cheek (on the cusp), conspiracy & androgyny palette & the gloss (legends only) - Jeffree Star Cosmetics, kush mascara - Milk Makeup (I LOVE this mascara), dreamy matte liquid lipstick (middle karma) - Nabla.

Sand Cuffed Joggers / Femme Luxe*

Agora que passamos mais tempo em casa (por aqui o teletrabalho mantém-se desde abril) a roupa que uso resume-se muito a isto: conforto e fato de treino. Ou seja, a “roupa de fim de semana/lazer” agora é a roupa do dia a dia, and I'm fine with that! Estas calças são extremamente suaves e quentinhas, e recebi-as da Femme Luxe. // Now that we spend more time at home (I'm working from home since April) the clothes I wear boil down to this: comfort and tracksuits. In other words, “weekend / leisure clothes” is now everyday clothes, and I'm fine with that! These pants are extremely soft and warm, and I received them from Femme Luxe.

Em outubro li Stephen King pela primeira vez com o “Bem-vindos a Joyland”. Talvez não tenha sido a melhor estreia para mim. Gostei do livro, a história é interessante e lê-se com imensa fluidez, mas confesso que esperava mais horror (nem sei bem porquê, a culpa talvez seja do mês em questão 😂). Tenho o “It” na wishlist há imenso tempo, e acredito que devia ter começado por aí. Ainda assim, o Joyland é uma leitura agradável. É passado num parque de diversões e a curiosidade só aumenta com o passar dos acontecimentos. Tem mistério e alguns fantasmas à mistura, a good mix.

Li o “Drácula” de Bram Stoker há imensos anos, e embora não me recorde ao detalhe, lembro-me de ter gostado. Parece-me o livro perfeito para reler nesta altura do ano e, afinal de contas, é um clássico do mundo dos vampiros (e yes, também li Twilight e gostei 😆, e quero muito ler o novo!).

In October, I read Stephen King for the first time with “Joyland”. Perhaps it was not the best debut for me. I liked the book, the story is interesting and it reads with immense fluidity, but I confess that I expected more horror (I don't even know why, maybe it's October's fault). I've had "It" on my wishlist for a long time, and I believe I should have started there. Still, "Joyland" is a pleasant read. It takes place in an amusement park and curiosity only increases with the passing of events. There is mystery and some ghosts, it's a good mix.

I read Bram Stoker's “Dracula” many years ago, and although I don't remember in detail, I remember enjoying it. It seems like the perfect book to reread this time of year and, after all, it's a classic from the vampire world (and yes, I also read Twilight and I liked it, and I really want to read the new one!).

13 Day Spooky Countdown

Durante 13 dias no mês de Outubro (fiz uma contagem até ao dia 31), abri a caixa 13 Day Spooky Countdown: um calendário alusivo ao Halloween da Funko Pop, com personagens em tamanho pocket. Todas as personagens são de filmes spooky, claro! Os meus favoritos foram (obviamente) as duas personagens de “Beetlejuice”: o próprio Betelgeuse e a Lydia. Adoráveis!

Também gostei muito do Freddy Kruger de “The Nightmare on Elm Street”e do Jason de “Friday the 13th”. Foi muito engraçado ter uma personagem para descobrir todos os dias, e graças a esta box acabei por rever alguns filmes, bem como ver alguns pela primeira vez (como o “The Lost Boys”).

For 13 days in October, I opened the 13 Day Spooky Countdown box, a Halloween-related calendar from Funko Pop with pocket-sized characters. All characters are from spooky movies, of course! My favorites were (obviously) the two characters from “Beetlejuice”: Betelgeuse himself and Lydia. Adorable! I also really liked Freddy Kruger from “The Nightmare on Elm Street” and Jason from “Friday the 13th”. It was very cute to have a character to discover every day, and thanks to this box I ended up rewatching some films, as well as watching some that I had never seen (like “The Lost Boys”).

Livros em segunda mão em inglês

Este mês fiz uma excelente descoberta relacionada com livros em segunda mão (btw, talvez seja interessante fazer um post só sobre o assunto? Onde compro em segunda mão, etc). Conheci a AwesomeBooks, uma loja do UK com global shipping (apenas £2,99) que vende milhões e milhões de livros previamente usados a preços INCRÍVEIS. “The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy” é o exemplo perfeito — tem capa dura, aparenta estar novo, e custou apenas 2,25 €.

Incrível, não é?

Ainda só lá fiz uma encomenda, na qual comprei sete livros. O total foi apenas 20,31€, wow! Comprei maioritariamente livros que já queria e andava à procura (como o “Girls of Riyadh”, que cá em Portugal não encontrava à venda em lado nenhum), mas não resisti a mais dois que encontrei por mero acaso cujo preço era extremamente apelativo.

“The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy” é um livro do Tim Burton que já queria ler há imensos anos, por mera curiosidade. É um livro que se lê em menos de meia hora, pois são maioritariamente ilustrações. É um livro dark. Dark, mas (kinda) cute, entendem? Difícil de explicar. São poemas macabros e muito à Tim Burton. Pessoalmente gostei, e esta edição é particularmente bonita.

This month I made an excellent discovery related to second-hand books (btw, maybe it would be interesting to make a post just on the subject? Where I buy second-hand, etc.). I got to know AwesomeBooks, a UK store with global shipping (only £ 2.99) that sells millions and millions of previously used books at AMAZING prices. "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy" is the perfect example - it has a hard cover, looks new, and only costed me € 2.25.

Incredible, isn't it?

I only placed one order there (yet), where I bought seven books. The total was just € 20.31, wow! I bought mostly books that I already wanted and was looking for (like “Girls of Riyadh”, which here in Portugal I couldn't find anywhere), but I couldn't resist two more that I found by chance, with prices extremely appealing.

“The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy” is a book by Tim Burton that I wanted to read for many years, out of curiosity. It is a book that can be read in less than half an hour, as it is mostly illustrations. It's a dark book. Dark, but (kinda) cute? Hard to explain. It's a book of macabre poems. I personally liked it, and this edition is particularly beautiful.
